AIR FORCE SPONSORS SDIRS TESTING
AIEA,
HAWAII - In collaboration
with the US Air Force, Rescue Technologies Corporation
announced its newest product: the Self-Deploying
Infrared
Streamer (SDIRS). The US Air Force anticipates
the SDIRS will assist Search and Rescue teams
and their success.
This streamer allows visual acquisition during
the day and night on both land and sea. Its construction
includes a lengthy piece of bright orange, high-density
polyethylene (HDPE) material in addition to two
light sticks that operate passively (once
activated) for 3+ days.
Following extensive testing by the US Air Force,
the SDIRS was found to meet KPP
standards. Most notably, the SDIRS is visible
during the day from 1.3 nautical miles at 1500
feet altitude and at night from 3 miles (up to
6+ miles with night vision goggles). It remained
attached in parasail and parachute jumps and
high speed sled tests. The SDIRS has passed the
rigorous MIL testing standards and has been recommended
for Safe to Fly.
Rescue Technologies Corporation is the manufacturer
of the original RescueStreamer®, a passive
and continuous distress signal currently approved
for use by all sectors of the US military. The
US Air Force partnered with Rescue Technologies
Corporation to adapt
their
streamer
for nighttime use.
